​ECG Board Certification Exam

This is the only Advanced ECG Board Certification Exam in the Market. 


Cost of Advanced ECG Exam $249.95 for non Members, or $212.49 for SCM, ACCN and ACCNP Members 

Pre-Requisites: 

Who is Eligible to Take the Advanced ECG Board Certification Exam?
This Exam is open only to Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and Cardiology Fellows preparing for Cardiology Boards, and Physicians, on a global scale.  If you are a licensed professional, you are required to provide your license number and the state or province where your license was issued in, on your Application. 

Knowledge is the Key Requirement  
We do not recommend this exam for monitor or ECG technicians, or telemetry nurses. It was originally developed for Physicians reading on Hospital ECG panels, but later opened to Cardiology Fellows, Advanced Cardiac Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants.  Success depends on how well one has applied themselves to studying and reading 12-lead ECGs and complicated arrhythmias.  ​

Requirements to take the Advanced ECG Board Certification Exam?
Knowledge is the Key Requirement.  CEs are not required to sit for the exam, however 15 CEs in Cardiology will be required for the Recertification process every three years.

How to Prepare
Once you have signed up and paid for the exam, you will receive a study list for the exam. There are any number of reference books in electrocardiography to choose from.  We offer Marriott's ECG Board Review Manual for sale to help you prepare for the Exam, and we offer an online Course to assist you in passing the exam.  Marriott's ECG Board Review Manual can be purchased in our Resource Center listed under "More" in the menu panel above. ​

Prep Course Available Online

We offer an online Advanced Prep Course for this Exam.  ​The Course consists of covers 43 different diagnoses in a quiz type fashion with the rationale given for each diagnosis. The Course also offers a practice ECG Board Certification Exam to help prepare for the actual Exam.

​How do I pay for the Advanced ECG Exam?

​When and Where Can You Take the Advanced ECG Exam? 
You may test Online or at a designated Testing site in your area. Please note that the fee for Testing sites will cost an additional $50 over the fee for online testing.    

​Computer Requirements for the Advanced ECG Exam:
Check to see if your Computer has a built in Webcam, most do.  If not, you may purchase a $10-$15 external Webcam and connect it to your computer.  If you prefer to take the Exam at a testing site, the fee will be higher than if taking it online.   

Which Browser Should you use:
Try not to use the Internet Explorer to access the Exam.  If you have Firefox or Google Chrome, use one of them to log in as  Microsoft no longer supports the Internet Explorer.  ​

​How Many Questions are in the Online Advanced ECG Exam? 
There are 25 ECGs to analyze in the Exam which consists of multiple choice type questions. There is a mix of complicated 12-leads and arrhythmias to analyze. 

How Much Time is Allowed for the Advanced ECG Exam? 
90 minutes; the an average time spent by examinees is 1 hour.

What is the Passing Score for the Advanced ECG Exam? 
A score of 75% is required to pass the Exam. 

What to do when you receive the Advanced ECG Exam results?
You will receive an email shortly after completing and submitting your exam with your pass/fail statement and a final score.  You will be able to print this document.  As soon as you receive your results, please forward your Exam results to Kayla Bryant (Assistant Exam Director) at kbryant@accn.net.  She will process your Certification and send you both an electronic copy of your Certificate and a hard copy in the mail along with your Certification award lapel pin.   

What if you don't Pass the Advanced Exam the first try? 
You will be allowed to take it a second time for a fee of $75. After that you will have to pay the full fee for your third try.  There are no restrictions as to how many times you may take the Exam. 

How to retake the Advanced Exam if I did not pass the first time. 

You will be allowed to take the Advacned ECG Exam a second time for a fee of $75. After that you will have to pay the full fee for your third try.  There are no restrictions as to how many times you may take the Exam.
