The Scope of Practice for the Cardiac Nurse Practitioner is like that of the Cardiac Nurse, only the NP requires expanded knowledge and skills to provide expert care to cardiac patients. Cardiac Nurse Practitioners conduct comprehensive head to toe cardiac assessments, order and interpret diagnostic tests (including laboratory tests) and cardiac procedures, make differential diagnoses, and prescribe both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies for the management of a host of cardiac disorders and anomalies.
Pre-RequisitesWho is Eligible to Take the Cardiovascular Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Board Certification Exam?
This Exam is open only to Licensed Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants working in cardiology settings; license number and the state license was issued in, must be included on the Exam Application. Requirements to take the Cardiovascular Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Level IV Board Certification Exam? Knowledge is the Key Requirement. We recommend candidates work apply themselves to the study of General Cardiology, and have at least 2 years of practice in an a Cardiac setting before attempting to take this Exam. CEs are not required to sit for the exam, however 30 CEs in Cardiology will be required for the recertification process every three years. What is covered in the Exam? The CVNP-BC and CVPA-BC Level IV Exam Matrix: We cannot tell with 100% accuracy which questions will be asked in the exam, because they are random each time a person takes the exam. There are 288 questions rolled out during each exam session.

The ABCM can send a study list for the Level IV Exams to guide study. When studying online, remember to study resources that are not older than five years.

Exam Application - To apply for the CVNP-BC or the CVPA-BC Level IV Exam, follow this Exam Application link, complete and submit the Application. After the application is submitted, make the payment by clicking on the Pay Here. After receipt of both the application and payment, we will send an email with instructions on how to access our Exam Scheduler online. This process may take a week as we validate the exam application. After the validation process an email is sent with instructions on how access the Exam Scheduler online; this is not an overnight application process. Frequently Asked Questions About the CVNP-BC and CVPA-BC Level IV Exam: How do I pay for the CVNP-BC or CVPA-BC Level IV Exam? Click on Pay Here When and Where Can You Take the CVNP or CVPA-BC Level IV Exam? You may test Online from your home computer with built in webcam, but not from a cell phone or tablet due to stability; ProvExams has a list of brick and mortar testing facilities if you cannot take it from your home computer or laptop. When you have purchased your Exam, you will be put in touch with ProvExams to schedule your Exam either from home or at a remote testing site that they can provide you with. Computer Requirements for the Exam: Check to see if your Computer has a built in Webcam, most do. If not, you will need to purchase an external Webcam and connect it to your computer. Which Browser Should you use: Try not to use the Internet Explorer to access the Exam. If you have Firefox or Google Chrome, use one of them to log in as Microsoft no longer supports the Internet Explorer. How Many Questions are in the Online Exam? There are 288 questions in the online Level IV Exam. How Much Time is Allowed for the CVRN-BC Level II Exam? 4 hours; the an average time spent by examinees is 3 hours. What is the Passing Score for the Exam? A score of 70% is required to pass the Exam. When will I Receive my Exam Results? You will receive an email within half hour after completing and submitting your exam with your pass/fail statement and a final score will be provided by ABCM when they process your results. What if you don't Pass the Exam the first try? You will be allowed to take it a second time for a fee of $150. After that you will have to pay the full fee for your third try. There are no restrictions as to how many times you may take the Exam, however if you fail a second time, you will be required to wait 90 days before retesting. |
