Cost of the Cardiovascular Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistants Level IV Board Certification Examination - $349 

Scope of Practice:
The Scope of Practice for the Cardiac Nurse Practitioner is like that of the Cardiac Nurse, only the NP requires expanded knowledge and skills to provide expert care to cardiac patients. Cardiac Nurse Practitioners conduct comprehensive head to toe cardiac assessments, order and interpret diagnostic tests (including laboratory tests) and cardiac procedures, make differential diagnoses, and prescribe both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies for the management of a host of cardiac disorders and anomalies. Cardiac NPs and PAs develop treatment plans, conduct cardiac research, and they promote healthy lifestyle changes for their patients.

Who is Eligible to Take the CVNP-BC or CVPA-BC Level IV
Board Certification Exam? 

This Exam is open only to Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants in any corner of the globe.  If you are a licensed Registered NP or PA, you are required to provide your professional license number and the state your license was issued in, on your Application. 

Requirements to take the CVNP-BC or CVPA-PA Level I Board Certification Exam (CVRN-BC Level I)?
Knowledge is the Key Requirement.  We recommend that Cardiac Nurses working in Cardiology and apply themselves diligently to the study of Cardiovascular Nursing practice, and have at least 1 year of practice in a Non-Acute Care Setting such as PCU, Telemetry, PICU, and Interventional Cardiology settings, before attempting to take this Exam.  CEs are not required to sit for the exam, however 30 CEs in Cardiology will be required for the recertification process every three years. 
We recommend an in depth study of the following areas of study for CVRN Level I Board Certification Examination:

1. Bedside Assessment of the CV Patient
2. Basic to Intermediate Electrocardiography including Recording, Reading, and Responding
3. Coronary Artery Disease including: STEMI, NSTEMI, and Unstable Angina
4. Hypertension
5. Cardiomyopathy
6. Heart Failure
7. Non Invasive and Invasive Cardiology Procedures

The Marriott Heart Foundation and the American College of Cardiovascular Nurses developed the Cardiovascular Nursing Course that not only provides Nurses with an update in clinical cardiology, it also provides an excellent targeted review for the Cardiovascular Nursing Certification Examination. 
The Course is recorded and online on demand.  Log in and out of the course until finished; no need to complete all at once, spread it out over days or weeks (up to 6 months). 

When you order the course, you will be sent a soft bound course manual by 2 day priority mail, and you will be given a link with the password to enter the Course modules in an email.

​How do I purchase the CVRN-BC Level I Exam?

​When and Where Can You Take the CVRN-BC Level I Exam? 
You may test Online from your home computer with built in webcam, but not from a cell phone or tablet due to stability; our ABCM approved testing facilities are currently closed due to COVID.    

​Computer Requirements for the CVRN-BC Level I Exam:
Check to see if your Computer has a built in Webcam, most do.  If not, you may purchase a $10-$15 external Webcam and connect it to your computer.   

Which Browser Should you use:
Try not to use the Internet Explorer to access the Exam.  If you have Firefox or Google Chrome, use one of them to log in as  Microsoft no longer supports the Internet Explorer.  ​

​How Many Questions are in the Online CVRN-BC Level I Exam? 
There are 150 questions in the online Cardiovascular Nursing Level I Board Certification Exam.  

How Much Time is Allowed for the CVRN-BC Level I Exam? 
3 hours; the an average time spent by examinees is 2.5 hours.

What is the Passing Score for the CVRN-BC Level I Exam? 
A score of 70% is required to pass the Exam. 

What to do when you receive the CVRN-BC Level I Exam results?
You will receive an email shortly after completing and submitting your exam with your pass/fail statement and a final score.  You will be able to print this document.  As soon as you receive your results, please forward your Exam results to Bobbi Lucido (Assistant Exam Director) at abcm.lucido@gmail.com.  She will assist in obtaining your results and with processing your certification should you pass the exam. We will send you an electronic copy of your Certificate and a hard copy in the mail, along with your Certification award lapel pin.   

What if you don't Pass the CVRN-BC Level I Exam at first try? 
You will be allowed to take it a second time for a fee of $100. After that you will have to pay the full fee for your third try.  There are no restrictions as to how many times you may take the Exam. If you fail the exam a second time you will have to wait 90 days before taking the exam a third time.
