ECG Instructor's CertificationWe are proud to announce our ECG Instructor's Board Certification Examination for all levels of Cardiology practice from Basic to Advanced.
In an effort to standardize ECG interpretation, the ABCM has developed ECG Instructor Certification Exams which are offered online through the use of our live proctor service on Basic, Intermediate 12-Lead, and Advanced Instructors. The Basic ECG Instructor's Exam is intended for anyone teaching basic rhythm and 12-lead ECG analysis. The Instructor will have to demonstrate their knowledge of pattern recognition and diagnostic criteria. The Intermediate 12-Lead ECG Instructor's Exam is intended for anyone teaching basic ECG and beginning to intermediate rhythm and 12-Lead ECG analysis. The instructor will have to demonstrate their knowledge of 12-lead recording, reading, and responding to abnormal 12-lead ECGs, and more complicated rhythm analysis. Examinees will be tested on both pattern recognition and diagnostic criteria. The Advanced ECG Instructor's Exam is intended for anyone teaching Advanced Concepts in Arrhythmias and 12-Lead ECG reading. The instructor will have to demonstrate their ability to make complex diagnoses and identify criteria needed to make various advanced diagnoses. After the Exams have been scored the Instructor will not only receive an overall score, but will also receive a list of topics that were incorrectly identified. A frameable Certificate good for three years is awarded to those who score 80% or more. Those that score 60 to 80% on either the Advanced, or 12-Lead Exams will receive the next lower level Certificate. For example: score 76% on an Advanced Exam and receive the 12-Lead ECG Certificate, or score 75% on the 12-Lead Exam and receive the Basic ECG Instructor's Certificate. You may however select any organization for training, but buyer beware and look before you leap, you may find yourself learning from inadequate sources, and there are many out there who are well intended, but not prepared at the level the ABCM tests on. In order to receive the master study list for the Basic ECG Board Certification Examination, one will first need to fill out the application form for approval. Once the approval is made, the master list of topics will be emailed. And, the ECG Instructor's who train them should demonstrate their ability to teach 12-Lead ECG concepts by becoming a Certified 12-Lead ECG Instructor.

Advanced ECG InstructorAdvanced ECG Interpretation skills should be mastered by all , nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and all physicians employed in cardiology settings or reading on hospital ECG panels (this includes cardiologists). And, the ECG Instructor's who train them should demonstrate their ability to advanced concepts by becoming a Certified Advanced ECG Instructor. The Advanced ECG Instructor should be equipped to teach at any of the three lower levels.
